Ronix Koal Surface 727 w/ Hybrid Carbon Foil
Ronix Koal Surface 727 Board:
A construction incorporating the core of our high-end Flyweight Pro series but wrapped in a bulletproof Surface Skin. In short, the lightweight feel of your favourite high-end surfer, the durability of your favourite wakeboard, and a skin that breaks up the water for less resistance.
The 727 is a design that combines the most important needs in a proper foil board - deflection, buoyancy, tempo, and footwear.
Deflection – When you are wakesurfing, you always want contact with the waterline. That gives you the control to create leverage and speed. As we foiled more, we realized you don’t want any of those qualities on your board. In wakefoiling, your angle and quickness should be coming directly from your foil. The board’s job is to rebound off the water as quickly as possible allowing the mast to get back into the correct height again. We did this by creating a pronounced directional rockerline looking to aid the take-off and rebound the landing. Then, we added exaggerated bevels covering the profile of the board to help displace the water as quickly / smoothly as possible.
Buoyancy – We found the best prototypes were the ones that would have medium rise when we were standing on them underwater. As boards got too thick it was difficult to do a deep-water start. Half the time we foil, we start with the board underneath our feet in the water. If the board is too thin, you don’t have enough buoyancy which won’t create the feel we were looking for with the board as we were preparing to take off. Neutral buoyancy 2.0 for the flight variety is born.
Tempo – The lighter the board, the quicker / easier the initiation of a turn is – but if the board feels too light, it will want to initiate a turn before your body does. Or vice versa if the board is delayed from your natural movement – in either of these scenarios you have the dreaded cross-up. Finding the right tempo in the shape and construction was vital. We shaped countless prototypes to figure out the balancing act of meeting buoyancy and swing weight needs – for a the right rhythm between rider and board.
Footwear – Straps are included - those first couple times you ride, your boat driver will thank you for using them. Getting up with them is easier while you learn to feel stable in a foiling body position.
Alloy Fluid Shift Mast:
Finally, a setup that makes foiling fun and easy. Stay consistent, stay fluid. The first of its kind where the mast will adapt to your ability. Â
14” MAST - SKIMMING OVER THE WATER - This is where it all starts. We have ridden masts as short as 10” to over 30”, and we feel 14” is the perfect height to begin your adventure. We have coached countless people who have struggled for years on a traditional mast height with great success on this reduced height. You are still above the water, but you don’t have nearly the magnified sensation on your starts as you would with most conventional mast heights. Once you feel comfortable with your starts at this height, we encourage you to go directly to setting #2.Â
17” MAST - HOVERING OVER THE WATER - Congratulations, you have advanced from the beginning phase and feel comfortable with your start. Now you can learn weight position, your ideal stance, how to open your hips and shoulders up to the boat, all the while holding on to the handle. This setting is all about building the correct foundation that will carry you through every level of foiling. We encourage you to stay at this setting until you feel solid with the key mechanics and have a comfortable heelside or toeside turn without involving the wave.
20” MAST – FLYING - You are on a roll. You have your starts and the basic fundamentals in your back pocket. Welcome to the highest setting. While on the second wave with a roughly 80’ rope we encourage you to be outside of the wave and gradually edge into the wave, all while holding onto the handle. This setting will more than likely take some time – but the goal is to understand the power of the wave where the force is coming from and you will need to adjust your weight/movements to these new forces. Once you feel like you understand the habits of the wave and how you need to adjust for them – drop the handle and begin your flight.
Link 3D Fuselage:
The Link 3D is the intersection of the mast, front wing, and rear stabilizer with perfection in every nuance. A sleek conical design with a unique anti twist attachment shape.Â
Each fuselage starts out as a high-grade alloy in the shape of a long brick, and we spend hours milling each one on a 3-axis CNC machine to the exact dimension for the perfect fit between the connection points.
This streamlined conical design achieves the highest marks of anything we have ever tested in rigidly and water efficiency. A strong link is, in many ways, the driving force to a smooth, predictable foiling experience.
Leading Edge Fit - We designed a 6-sided keyhole – shape that easily attaches to any of our front wings with a finite tolerance that only mounts 1 way – preventing the always embarrassing mounting of your wing upside down.Â
Trailing Edge Fit – We recess the trailing edge of the fuselage to have streamlined efficiency with the rear stabilizer whether you are using the rear stabilizer or not.
Hybrid Carbon Balance Front Wing 1300cm2:
The best shape to begin your foil experience with. This is the foundation model – the ideal size and construction for somebody new to foiling regardless of what size they are or somebody experienced who wants that blend of speed and lift.Â
Balance Wing Design – A rhythmic flow of a sequence of movements. A common theme in analyzing foils is getting great drive, and lift but having a hard time controlling it. The board will skyrocket to the top, plunge to the bottom or somewhere in between. This series of wings will ask you what floor on the elevator do you want to attend – and, most importantly – keep you there. A nimble turn that will easily roll over to edge with its elliptical outline and additional width. Will quickly set you in the sweet spot, keep you on your specified flight pattern, and do it with a quicker reacting edge hold.
Hybrid Carbon Construction – As infused autoclave development evolved, we learned that this style of manufacturing wings compliments aluminum masts and fuselages. This layup makes a more buoyant part offsetting the increased weight of an aluminum mast. A composition that compliments the mast by creating a more natural rise/lift. This creates more pressure on the board, so as you begin to pump you feel a more direct transfer.Â
Hybrid Carbon Balance Rear Stabiliser 240cm2:
The voice of reason is mounted on the back of your Link 3D fuselage. A stable, easy-to-ride rear wing complementing our balance front wings. The extra volume and higher winglet height create locked-in powerful turns for all abilities.
